Hinckley Book Falls to #42

LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley's book "Standing for Something" dropped this week both on USA Today's best seller list and on Amazon.com's sales ranking. On USA Today the book fell to #42 from #31 and on Amazon it fell to #116 from #61. The drop may indicate that the book's initial popularity is starting to wear off.

"Standing for Something" Hits New York Times Bestseller List

President Gordon B. Hinckley's book "Standing for Something" debuted at #4 in the Advice, How-to, and Miscellaneous category of the New York Times Book Review's Best Seller's list. The book is placed in a smaller category than the Fiction and Nonfiction categories where most books appear.

LaBute's Bash Opens In Washington DC

LDS playwright Neil LaBute's "Bash: Latterday Plays" opened recently in Washington DC, and the Post's William Triplett wrote a 'mini review' of the collection of three monologues. Triplett says that while LaBute has a gift for composing "the telling line that can make you burst out laughing or recoil in revulsion at the character speaking it." But he says that LaBute needs more than good lines for a good stage monologue.

Mormon Arts Festival Will Be Less Frequent

The Mormon Arts Festival, held annually for the past few years, has changed to every two years. As a result, the next festival will be held April 12 to 14th of 2001 at Tuacahn, the arts complex near St. George, Utah. The festival will not be held this year.
