Glenwood Colorado Ward Clears Trail for 'Colorado Cares Day'

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO -- Members of the Glenwood Ward were up early Saturday morning clearing brush and growth from the Mitchell Creek trail above West Glenwood. The ward service project was part of 'Colorado Cares Day,' a statewide effort to improve communities through volunteerism.

About 35 ward members showed up to work on the first mile of the five-mile trail in a project that, according to Bishop Joe Kline, will need to be done again, "It looks like it kind of needs good attention about every year. Somebody ought to come up."He adds that the trail is the least known of those in the area, and the US Forest Service has said it can't get enough volunteers for the work.

The ward's Boy Scout Troop will continue working on the trail this coming weekend, and Bishop Kline hopes that eventually it will be completed. "We keep just trying to work on it. Maybe we'll get to the end (of the trail) some year."

The Glenwood Ward has participated in other service projects in the past. Earlier this year, the ward assisted fire fighters who were fighting local brush fires by cooking meals for them. And last year the ward prepared an index of the obituaries that have appeared in the Glenwood Post.
