Duke Basketball Honors Returned Missionary Senior

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA -- LDS returned missionary Matt Christensen, a second string center on Duke's Blue Devils basketball team, was honored Saturday less than two days before his final appearance with the team. Christensen is the lone senior on the team, but was honored on "Senior Day" along with two juniors, Jason Williams and Carlos Boozer, who are leaving the team for the NBA draft.

Christensen is something of a fixture on Duke's team because his tenure extends back to the fall of 1995, before he served an LDS mission to Germany. He also redshirted following his mission. Christensen said he was sad that his basketball career was ending, ""It's sad to come to the end of something that has been just so spectacular and special, to have it kind of wrap up. In a lot of ways I feel a pretty strong sense of accomplishment that I've been able to be here as long as I have and have been a part of teams that have been so successful."

While Christensen doesn't finish with fancy stats or an NBA career, he finishes college well prepared for the rest of his life. The son of Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen, he has earned degrees in civil engineering and in economics.
