Ohio State quarterback Joe Germaine led his team to victory in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day over Texas A&M, leaving his team at 10-1 and awaiting the results of Monday night's Fiesta Bowl to see if they might be considered the best team in the NCAA. Top ranked Tennessee must loose for Ohio State to be considered #1.

But Germaine, a returned missionary who is currently ranked #5 by ESPN for the Heisman Trophy, could have been kept out of Ohio State by Texas A&M's offensive coordinator, Steve Kragthorpe, if Kragthorpe had been able to see into the future.

Kragthorpe was offensive coordinator at Northern Arizona University in 1993 when Germaine attended a football camp there. Wary of Germaine's intention to serve a mission, Northern Arizona didn't offer him a scholarship. Had they done so, he might not have gone to Ohio State and perhaps Texas A&M would have won the Sugar Bowl.
