IOC Official's Son Is Indicted In N.Y. and Utah

The son of one of the most influential members of the International Olympic Committee has been indicted by Federal grand juries in both Utah and New York. Jung Hoon "John" Kim is accused of immigration fraud in connection with a job allegedly provided him by LDS Church member Tom Welch, who was President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee at the time, in an attempt by Welch to get Kim's father to use his influence in favor of the selection of Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

The job Kim got was working with Keystone Communications CEO David Simmons, another LDS Church member, who plead guilty last month to a misdemeanor charge of filing a false income tax return and fraudulently accounting for payments to Kim. Simmons is the son of former Zion's Bank CEO Harris Simmons.

Kim has denied the allegations, and says that the immigration and job help he received was from the office of Senator Orrin Hatch, LDS Church member who is also a candidate for President of the United States. Hatch's office claims that any assistance rendered was within the law, but is also reviewing its records.
