Revelation opens door to priesthood for Gahannaman

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- This article discusses from a non-member point of view, how the 1978 relation on extending the priesthood to all worthy men has affected the life of Ernest Evans family of Gahanna, Ohio, including Bro. Evansí ordination in 1983, which would not have been possible five years earlier because of his race.

Sis. Evans, formerly a Roman Catholic, was approached by the missionaries in 1981 and experienced no discrimination with them or other church members. She also had asked her husband to consider becoming a Mormon with her but he was skeptical.

"All I knew about the Mormons was Donny and Marie Osmond, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and they hate blacks,'' he said. And "I thought I might be betraying my family, but found just the opposite; I got into genealogy", the former Baptist remarked.

The article also notes that a very distinguishing mark between our church and mainline Christian faiths is the belief in necessity of current revelation, with the revelation on the priesthood being a significant example.
