About Mormon News

Mormon News is the home of the Mormon News Podcast and a running record of news across the Mormon world: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the people, institutions, culture, and communities connected to it — faithful, former, and everything in between.

How stories are chosen. An automated editorial system scans established news sources every hour, scores stories for significance against a written editorial rubric, and publishes short original summaries that always link to the original reporting. We summarize; the linked outlets did the journalism, and they deserve your click.

Who publishes this. Mormon News is published by the Open Stories Foundation, the nonprofit behind Mormon Stories Podcast, founded by John Dehlin. The site is also the home of the weekly Mormon News Podcast, hosted by John Dehlin and Meggan Hayes. Mormon News is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What we do claim. Transparency and method, both of which you can check. Every candidate story is judged against the same written rubric whether it comes from the Church's own newsroom, the Salt Lake Tribune, a faithful podcast, or a critical one — no outlet or channel, Mormon Stories included, gets preferential treatment. Every story links to the original reporting, and where several outlets covered the same event we list them all so you can compare. Any story involving the Foundation, Mormon Stories Podcast, John Dehlin, the Mormon News Podcast, or the Foundation's litigation with the Church carries a visible disclosure. If you think we've tilted a story, tell us and we'll look at it.

Crime coverage. Crime stories are held to stricter rules: they must originate from established news organizations reporting official actions (charges, indictments, court proceedings), they use allegation language — “alleged,” “charged with” — until a court has ruled, and each one passes an additional automated compliance review against these standards before publishing. When charges we have covered are dropped or end in acquittal, we cover that too, with equal prominence.

Corrections. Errors are corrected in place with a visible correction note. Every story page includes a report-an-error link. Write to corrections@mormonnews.com.

Publishers. Story thumbnails are the preview images publishers attach to their own articles, displayed directly from the publisher's servers with attribution and a link. If you are a publisher and would like a thumbnail removed, email corrections@mormonnews.com and we will remove it promptly.
