The change comes amid head coach Kalani Sitake's public comments about resource disparities between BYU and its Big 12 conference peers.

Under the new structure, Brian Santiago, BYU's vice president for university advancement, will supervise the football program while the athletic director continues to oversee other sports. University officials say the change reflects football's central role in the school's athletic profile and revenue generation.

The restructuring follows Sitake's recent statements expressing frustration over facilities and staffing gaps compared to conference competitors. BYU joined the Big 12 in 2023 after decades as an independent program.
