The Church held a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the Huntsville Alabama Temple, the state's second temple following the Birmingham Alabama Temple dedicated in 2000. Elder Yoon Hwan Choi of the Seventy presided at the ceremony in Madison.

The Huntsville temple was announced in April 2021. The two-story structure will be approximately 35,000 square feet and will be built adjacent to an existing meetinghouse. Church News called the temple a "source of strength, light and hope" for members in northern Alabama and southern Tennessee.
