Intermountain Health and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall unveiled detailed plans Wednesday for a new LDS Hospital campus to be built at the "Sears Lake" site in downtown Salt Lake City, three to five years from now.

The new facility will replace the historic LDS Hospital, which has operated at its current location for 130 years. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, portions of the existing hospital campus will remain in use, though officials have not specified which services or facilities will be retained at the original site.

The project represents one of the largest healthcare infrastructure developments in Salt Lake City's recent history. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints transferred ownership of its hospital system to Intermountain Healthcare in 1975, but the LDS Hospital name has been retained.
