A Latter-day Saint meetinghouse in Salt Lake County opened its 1980 time capsule four years early, ahead of the building's scheduled demolition for the Bangerter Highway expansion project. The capsule was originally intended to remain buried until 2030.

Members gathered to recover the capsule before the Utah Department of Transportation tears down the building to widen the highway. The contents and the congregation's response to losing their longtime worship space were documented by The Salt Lake Tribune.
