When Latter-day Saints leave their church, most do not find another spiritual home in organized religion, according to studies examined by religion scholar Jana Riess in the Salt Lake Tribune. Most former members also do not plan to return to the LDS Church.

Riess's analysis draws on survey data showing that former Latter-day Saints are more likely to become religiously unaffiliated than to join another denomination. The findings reflect broader patterns of religious disaffiliation in America, but with higher rates among ex-Mormons than some other religious groups.
