Director Greta Gerwig discussed C.S. Lewis's Christian faith while unveiling the first trailer for her adaptation of "The Magician's Nephew," according to the Deseret News. The film is the first in a planned Narnia reboot from Netflix.

Gerwig, whose "Barbie" became 2023's highest-grossing film, said she wanted to honor Lewis's theological vision while making the fantasy accessible to modern audiences. "The Magician's Nephew" is a prequel explaining Narnia's creation.

The Chronicles of Narnia series is among the most widely read Christian allegories in literature. Lewis's work has particular resonance in Mormon culture, where his apologetics and fiction are frequently cited.
