August 20, 2026 at 7:07 PM MT · via St. George News · Summarized by Mormon News from original reporting
Ohio now hosts both the oldest and one of the newest temples in Latter-day Saint history following the dedication of the Cleveland temple. The Kirtland Temple, built in the 1830s during Joseph Smith's lifetime, remains Ohio's most historic LDS site, though it is no longer affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Cleveland temple was dedicated August 16, 2026, following an open house period. Ohio's LDS population has grown significantly since the church's early presence in Kirtland.
