Utah Senator John Curtis said he supports the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, but told KSL it is likely too late to implement the law before the November midterms if Congress passes it now.

Curtis said states would need time to update their registration systems and train poll workers on the new requirements. The legislation has drawn support from Republicans and opposition from Democrats and voting-rights groups, who argue it would create barriers to legal voters.

The bill is pending in the Senate. Curtis did not say whether he would vote for it if it reaches the floor before the election despite his concerns about implementation timing.
