The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints commemorated 125 years of presence in Japan on September 1, with Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles concluding a ministry tour to East Asia and Micronesia.

The Church established its first mission in Japan in 1901, making it one of the earliest Asian countries to receive organized Latter-day Saint missionary work. Japanese membership now numbers in the hundreds of thousands, with multiple temples serving the country.

The sesquicentennial observance included meetings with members, missionaries, and local leadership throughout Elder Bednar's visit.
