An engineer involved in the Salt Lake Temple renovation provided an inside look at the massive seismic retrofit and restoration project, KUTV reports. The work remains on schedule for an April 2027 open house.

The project is among the largest historic preservation efforts in the United States. Engineers are installing base isolators that will allow the 133-year-old granite structure to move independently during earthquakes, protecting it from damage.

The temple has been closed since December 2019 for the renovation and seismic upgrade.
