The Salt Lake Tribune interviewed women across the political spectrum about the First Presidency letters read in their congregations.

Some faithful members told the Tribune they felt the Church had abandoned women facing pregnancy complications, while others expressed relief that leadership had taken a clear position. The letters directed members to oppose Idaho's Proposition 1 and a similar Nevada measure, both of which would enshrine abortion rights in state constitutions.

The Church has historically allowed abortion in cases of rape, incest, danger to the mother's life, or severe fetal abnormalities, while opposing it in most other circumstances.
