The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed Friday that more than 90,000 missionaries are now serving worldwide, a record for the church, ABC4 reports. The growth is largely attributed to an increase in sister missionaries actively serving.

The milestone marks the first time the church's missionary force has exceeded 90,000. Growth accelerated after 2012 policy changes lowered the minimum age for sister missionaries from 21 to 19 and for elders from 19 to 18.
