A project official told a University of Utah audience that the multiyear effort to seismically secure the Salt Lake Temple has been "nothing short of another miracle," comparing it to the original 1890s construction.

The renovation, which began in 2019, involves installing base isolators and reinforcing the sandstone structure to withstand a major earthquake. Engineers have worked to preserve the historic building while meeting modern seismic standards — a task complicated by the temple's age, materials, and symbolic importance.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2026, with the temple expected to reopen for use after a seven-year closure. The Church has released periodic updates on the engineering work, including details of the foundation excavation and stone preservation.
