President Trump has nominated Cissie Graham Lynch, granddaughter of evangelist Billy Graham, as ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Lynch vowed to "protect our most precious and fundamental right — and one that far too many people around the world still live without — freedom of religion."

The position leads U.S. efforts to promote religious freedom globally and produces an annual State Department report on religious liberty worldwide. The role has particular significance for Latter-day Saints, who have faced restrictions in multiple countries and have made religious freedom advocacy a priority.

The nomination requires Senate confirmation.
