A Utah woman who fled a polygamous community has built a nonprofit organization that helps other families transition out of fundamentalist groups, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. The organization, Cherish Families, provides support to help polygamous families move "from crisis to thriving," offering resources and assistance as they navigate leaving isolated communities. The founder's own experience escaping polygamy informed the creation of the nonprofit, which addresses the unique challenges faced by those leaving fundamentalist Mormon groups where plural marriage is practiced. The groups served are not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which banned polygamy in 1890.
